3D Modeling for a Bambu Lab Printer — on iPad
The fastest way to tweak, repair, or recolor a model for a Bambu Lab printer without a desktop is Forma3D — an independent iPad and iPhone app that edits meshes on-device and exports files compatible with the Bambu Lab printing workflow.

Forma3D is an independent application developed by a third party. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Bambu Lab. Bambu Lab, Bambu Handy, Bambu Studio, MakerWorld, and AMS are trademarks of Bambu Lab; they are referenced here only to describe file compatibility.
What you can do on the iPad
- Repair a downloaded model: fix non-manifold geometry and holes that make slicers complain — before the file ever reaches your printer.
- Resize, rotate, and cut: adjust scale to your build plate, orient the model for better print orientation, or cut away what you don't need.
- Split an oversized model: divide a large mesh into printable parts. See split STL for 3D printing.
- Paint faces for multi-filament prints: assign palette colors per face and export a colored 3MF for a multi-filament workflow such as AMS. See colored 3MF export.
- Design from primitives: build functional parts — brackets, organizers, adapters — with primitives, transforms, and Boolean operations.
From model to printer
- Import an STL into Forma3D — your own design or a downloaded model — or start from primitives.
- Edit, repair, or paint the mesh on-device. Everything runs locally; no account or cloud upload is required for modeling.
- Export the result as STL for a single-material job or as colored 3MF for a multi-filament job.
- Open the file in Bambu Studio on a computer, or send it to the printer through the Bambu Handy app — see the step-by-step guide how to print from iPhone without Bambu Studio.
Where the files go
| Forma3D export | Where it goes | Use case |
|---|---|---|
| STL | Any slicer, including Bambu Studio | Single-material prints |
| Colored 3MF | Bambu Studio, or Bambu Handy on the phone | Multi-filament prints, e.g. with AMS |
| USDZ | AR Quick Look on iPhone/iPad | Preview the model at real-world scale before printing |
Models from libraries
Forma3D can import models downloaded from MakerWorld or other model libraries for repair and adjustment. Before remixing a downloaded model, check its license — library terms differ, and some models are licensed for personal use only.
Get started
Forma3D is a free download with monthly, annual, and lifetime full-access options; check current App Store pricing before purchasing.

Frequently asked questions
Can I edit files for my Bambu Lab printer on iPad?
Yes. Forma3D edits STL and 3MF meshes on-device and exports files compatible with the Bambu Lab workflow — including colored 3MF for multi-filament setups such as AMS.
Do I need Bambu Studio to print from an iPad?
No. Export a 3MF from Forma3D, upload it to MakerWorld in Safari, and send the job through Bambu Handy — the full path is covered in our print-without-Bambu-Studio guide.
Can I paint a model for AMS on an iPad?
Yes. Assign palette colors to mesh faces in Forma3D and export a colored 3MF that carries the per-face data to the slicer or Bambu Handy.
